People make me laugh at work.
Customer: Your website isn't working! I don't understand how you people do business. This is ridiculous.
Me: Could you explain the issue in more detail?
Customer: I can't see the entire site and you can only see half of my shopping cart. You are going to lose such a good customer RIGHT NOW.
Me: Is your browser maximized?
Customer: .....*silence*.....Oh.
I don’t think that my fashion can change the world at all, But I know that great...

Alex Payne Writes on Obligation
“At the end of the day, the best thing you can do is to figure out what makes you happy and then do the hell out of that thing. You’ll probably do a great job at whatever it is you’ve decided to do. Hopefully, your passion for your work will result in positive outcomes that benefit you and your community. Maybe we’ll all luck out and the job that makes you happy ends up benefitting a large...

To all those people who want welfare applicants to be tested for drugs I just gotta say this.
An addict that doesn’t have a job, doesn’t have a home, and is starving…needs to somehow gain access to rehab services, sustenance, attention and a place to stay. It bothers me because denying an addict welfare is a denial of social responsibility. If you don’t want to help those...

I can't keep up.
Ok, so I started using Pinterest, but it’s a lot of dang work! I almost feel overwhelmed with the amount of content available on it. Who knows…I might be in love with it next week.
Or it will turn into a dead account like Flickr.

You either both stand, or both sit.
A note on how to conduct yourself in a professional setting…
Never shake someone’s hand while they are standing and you are sitting. It’s uncomfortable and rude. Plus, body language can change the course of a conversation. If you’re sitting and they’re standing, what does that say about the exchange of social power?
Just a thought.

White Privilege: What we like to remember, and not...
This is going to be long, but I’m not going to apologize. It was a very important post for me on a personal level. If you disagree, that’s fine, but I won’t tolerate pissed off propaganda from a white supremacist, so you can take that bullshit elsewhere.
I finally finished watching a YouTube uploaded lecture by Tim Wise. It was a fascinating deconstruction on white privilege....

The Job I Never Thought I Could Leave
I’ve had a rough year which has culminated in a diagnosis (as of Wednesday) that I have a stomach ulcer.
I’m finally changing jobs after nearly seven years at the same firm. (Not because of that stupid ulcer, but the stress of being a manager – which is an indirect cause of that damn ulcer. Ugh!) Anyway, I’m sad to be leaving.
I came to them as a self-professed “team leader” that didn’t...

Flick Chicks by Mindy Kaling
A hilarious, but pretty insightful article by Mindy Kaling (aka Kelly Kapoor on “The Office”) on why she loves rom-coms.
Why does Kaling love rom-coms?
“For me, there is no difference between Ripley from “Alien” and any Katherine Heigl character. They are equally implausible. They’re all participating in a similar level of fakey razzle-dazzle, and I enjoy every second of...

FREE EVERYTHING by Miranda July →
I read this article with a sick sense of fascination, revulsion and a bit of jealousy. I don’t have the chutzpah to pull off a heist, however small it is. Truthfully, I am probably too neurotic and paranoid to ever get away with one. But, I can muster up respect for a person who has the balls to pull one off. Anyway, this is an interesting read on shoplifting…especially from the point...

What I felt about Mr. Jobs.
I am astounded that someone got upset with me for “not being sad enough” about Steve Jobs’ death. As a consumerist society I do believe we put a strong emphasis upon someone who has become an icon in terms of design and technology. There’s nothing wrong with admiring someone for their creative output, but it’s wrong to put anyone onto a pedestal. It’s difficult...

A little backstory to this clip before you watch it: Will Smith’s father abandoned him and his mother when he was a child, and when Will was finally getting into show business and making a name for himself, he tried to snake his way back into his life like nothing happened. Will co-wrote this episode, and James Avery (Uncle Phil) said “this scene was the hardest thing...
Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Kurt Cobain were all left-handed, all died at the age of 27, and autopsies reported each having a white bic lighter in their pockets. This is why it is said that white lighters are unlucky. It’s more likely that smoking or snorting shit is unlucky, but I still refuse to buy white lighters. Habit?
